Chinese artists were specially commissioned and have produced 8 amazing new pieces for the Wool Modern showcase in Shanghai–Exception, Mo Jiao, PINWU, HHDFUN, Hou Zheng Guang, Vega Wang, Xander Zhou and Zhang Chi.

VISION magazine co-hosted the event which launched this groundbreaking exhibition presenting a new look at wool, one of the oldest natural fibers known to man. Guests included Chinese artists Mo Jiao, Xander Zhou and PINWU.

More than 60 pieces are included in the exhibition. The curator Charlotte Lurot commented“The Campaign for Wool–a brilliant initiative, under the patronage of HRH The Prince of Wales–had decided to fund an exhibition that celebrated the use of wool in the creative industries. Through a selection process, I was lucky to be appointed curator for the project. Through a long period of research, I decided to focus the exhibition on 21st Century exhibits from the worlds of fashion, product design and fine art and even cutting edge technology. There are a few exceptions to this–including amazing archive pieces by Thierry Mugler and Courrèges.”

The exhibition launched in London in September 2011 with over 60 exhibits, and has since had successful launches in Berlin and Sydney.

"Bringing the exhibition to Shanghai and working alongside amazing local designers and artists has added another level of innovation and again taken my breath away with the possibilities of one fibre.”

The exhibition provides an incredible glimpse into the wool archives from iconic designers including Thierry Mugler, Yves Saint Laurent, and Paul Smith, as well as innovative interior design displays such as Isabel Berglund’s“Queens Chair”and Angela Wright’s“189 Mile”wool installation, a 25 metre long, 75 kilo trunk-like mass falling in two cascades that part in a 'doorway' and flood out across the floor.

New pieces from Chinese artists and designers include creations from VEGA Wang who designed“Chi Le Ge”, an urban nomadic floor-length coat which is intended to encourage young people to face today’s nomadic life with confidence; Wang Zhenfei created‘flock’an installation based on a mathematical algorithm to represent the movement of a herd of sheep. All items showcase the aesthetic, environmental and technical benefits of wool with magnificent pieces, installations and products.

"This exhibition has become an important element of the global Campaign for Wool,”explained Robert Langtry, Chief Marketing Officer for The Woolmark Company.“Since its launch in London in September 2011, it has travelled the globe educating and inspiring designers and consumers with its clever and innovative showcase of wool at its finest.”

In addition to the Wool Modern exhibition, the retail campaign will be cooperated with Shanghai Jiu Guang Department Store in Shanghai from October 29th to November 6th, making the environment friendly, fashion and artistic wool products accessible to all consumers.

The Woolmark Company would also like to thank Goldstar International Express and Vision magazine for making the exhibition in Shanghai possible.
