Yarn Expo Autumn attracted a record number of exhibitors this year, lured by the various opportunities offered by the huge market demand from China. The show was held 22 – 24 October 2012 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Shanghai, China.

This year’s fair saw 4,812 visitors from 61 countries and regions, a 22% increase compared to the 2011 show. A total of 100 exhibitors from 11 countries and regions showcased their products across 3,000 sqm of exhibition space, a significant 60% increase from the previous edition.

Ms Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager, Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd commented: "Strong growth in visitors can be attributed not only to the huge potential offered by the Chinese market, but also due to the fact that we held Yarn Expo concurrently with Intertextile Shanghai Apparel, as most of our exhibitors also sell apparel fabric yarns and fibres. Visitors and exhibitors alike benefitted tremendously from Yarn Expo and the three additional events taking place in the same venue. This provided business synergies and a chance to make new contacts.”

Huge market demand from China offers significant opportunities to overseas suppliers
Yarn Expo’s largest pavilion was organised by the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council from India with 28 exhibitors. Mr N. Ravindranathan, Joint Director of the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council said: “Participation is an important step to building business in the Chinese domestic market. We are the international face of Indian Cotton Textiles. We’re here to facilitate exports growth for our country’s cotton industry. For the domestic buyer, our pavilion offers the entire range of Indian cotton yarns. We met and networked with many new manufacturers who will visit the factories of Indian suppliers to understand supply capabilities before finalising orders.”

Wanting to meet traders and end-users was the aim of pavilion member Nabira Exports, a producer of cotton yarns and fabrics. Company representative Mr Briean Kapadia said:  “There’s no doubt that China is the biggest market, holding 50 percent of the textile industry’s business. We are confident about entering into the Chinese market.”

Another popular area on the show floor was the Pakistan Zone, offering high quality and competitively priced yarns. Already doing business in the Chinese market is Opulent International, a group of exporters from Pakistan.  “China is a huge fabric producer and we are lucky to sell our yarns there in large quantities,” explained Mr Arshad Mian, the company’s Marketing Manager.
