By the end of February, the reserve of 2012/13 season had surpassed 6.2 million ton. The general cotton price kept stable under the support of reserve policy. During the month, facing the release of reserve cotton and limited resource in sport market, the mills turned to bidding for reserve, while light trading in spot market. The commercial carryover stocks continued staying in much lower position than previous time frame. While there is still part of the reserve cotton not delivered yet and import cotton cleared by the customs growing, the total commercial cotton stock increased than January.

CCA cotton warehousing and logistics branch made a survey to 131 member warehouses, by the end of February, 2013, commercial carryover cotton stock was 265,000 ton, comprising 25,400 ton of inland cotton, and 11,000 ton of Xinjiang cotton, totally 57,000 ton more over last month, and down by 957,000 ton Y/Y. Within the commercial carryover cotton stock, Xinjiang cotton took 37%, inland cotton 8%, and import cotton 55%. Based on this, commercial cotton carryover stock nationwide was approximately 329,000 ton, 73,000 ton more than January, 2013. During this month, 15,000 ton commercial cotton was dispatched to inland via railway from 22 Xinjiang transfer stations. The amount is 8,000 ton less over the month, and 136,000 ton less than Y/Y.

1. Commercial carryover stock in Inland

By the end of February, the commercial stocks in 109 inland warehouses hit 254,000 ton, 64,000 ton more over the month, while 297,000 ton less Y/Y. Among the stocks, 34% of Xinjiang cotton, 9% of inland cotton and 57% of import cotton.

As for the distribution of the stocks, Shandong and Jiangsu provinces still hold the largest shares with more than half of the total, then followed by Henan, Hebei provinces. To be specific, Shandong has 36%, 1% more over the month, Jiangsu dropped 4% over the month to 27%, Henan held 6%, 2% down over the month; Hebei was 5% with no change; Anhui was 3%, 1% up; Hubei held 1%, 1% down over the month; and Hunan was 1% with no change.

2. Xinjiang commercial carryover stocks

By the end of February, the carryover stock in 22 warehouses in Xinjiang was 11,000 ton, 7,000 ton less over the month, while 660,000 ton less Y/Y. All the stocks are Xinjiang cotton.

In the month, the commercial cotton transported via railway was 15,000 ton, 8,000 ton less over the month, while 136,000 ton less than last February. Based on this, there is 5,000 ton Xinjiang cotton still on the way by the end of February.
