By the end of March, about 90% of 2012/13 season’s yield entered the reserve purchase, leaving very limited high grade cotton in the market; at the same time cotton import of the month rebounded with moderately higher price over the month as certain sliding duty quota being delivered. More than half import of this month was under sliding duty and the rest was under full tariff duty. Increase was seen in all import means, especially general trade and bonded zone import. India and US cotton took nearly 80%; Qingdao, Nanjing and Shanghai were the main destination ports, Jiangsu, Shandong and Beijing were main importers.
 
According to Customs, import cotton in March was 528,800 ton, 150,000 ton more than last month, up by 39.6%, while 15.4% down Y/Y; the average import price was 1,882 USD per ton, 4 USD up over the month, 19.2% down Y/Y.

The cumulative total of the first 7 months in 2012/13 season was 2,736,000 ton, 15.6% down over the month; the first three months import of 2013 was 1,365,000 ton, 12.9% down Y/Y.
 
As for import means, all increased in March. The increase of general trade was least, which took share of more than one quarter, logistic goods under Custom special supervision was 29.5%, goods in bonded areas was 18.8%.
 
As for import sources, Brazil declined in volume, while the others increased. India and US took share of nearly 80%.
 
The average import price in March increased slightly, except good in bonded areas. General trade increased by 0.73%, processing by accepting customers materials, feeding processing and logistic good under special custom supervision increased by 12.5%, 0.26% and 1.49% separately, goods in bonded areas decreased by 3.4%.
 
Among five major import sources, US decreased by 2.23%, Brazil was down by 6.47%, India increased by 1.94%, Australia was up by 0.36%, and Uzbekistan was up by 1.13%.
 
Import destination ports were Qingdao, Nanjing and Shanghai, took share of nearly 90%.
 
Shandong, Jiangsu and Beijing remained the major import areas, took share of 70%.
